What is Hollowtide?
A free, fan-made revival of Asheron's Call, the fantasy online game that closed in 2017. The world of Dereth is back on a new game client, with new creatures, dungeons, bosses and gear added. More on the About page.
Is it free?
Yes. There is no shop and nothing to buy.
How do I start?
Open hollowtide.org. When the game has loaded, name your character, choose Male or Female and a class (Soldier, War Mage, Bow Hunter or Life Caster), and press Enter Dereth. You start in Holtburg.
What do I need?
A computer with a keyboard and mouse and a current web browser such as Chrome or Firefox. On a phone or tablet the page loads, but the game cannot be played.
Do I need the original game?
Not in the browser. The free desktop app for Windows, Mac and Linux, on itch.io, needs a copy of the original Asheron's Call game files on your computer.
How do I keep my character?
A new character lives only in your browser until you keep it. Choose a password when the game asks (or from its Options). After that you can log in from any computer, or from the desktop app.
I kept a character. How do I log in again?
On the name screen, choose "Log in with your account", or open hollowtide.org/?login=1.
Is the browser version the same game as the desktop app?
Yes: the same server and the same characters. The desktop app is smoother and has the full draw distance, and the itch.io app keeps it updated.
Is this the official Asheron's Call?
No. Hollowtide is a non-commercial fan project. Not affiliated with Turbine, WB Games or the original game's owners.
I found a bug. How do I report it?
Press F7 in the game. The report comes straight to us.
